The Role of Religious Thought in Interdisciplinary “Law and Literature” Studies

Jan-Melissa Schramm is professor of literature and law in the Faculty of English at the University of Cambridge and a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Tasmania. She is author of Testimony and Advocacy in Victorian Law, Literature, and Theology (2000), Atonement and Self-Sacrifice in Nineteenth-Century Narrative (2012), and Censorship and the Representation of the Sacred in Nineteenth-Century England (2019). She is also coeditor of two volumes of essays on interdisciplinary topics, Fictions of Knowledge: Fact, Evidence, Doubt (2011) and Sacrifice and the Modern Literature of War (2018), as well as author of numerous articles on eighteenth- and nineteenth-century literature. Her current book project is tentatively titled Fiction and the Making of the Modern English Constitution.
