Serial Killing Serial Children: Dexter's Counterfeit Families

Steven Bruhm is Robert and Ruth Lumsden Professor of English at Western University (formerly the University of Western Ontario). He is the author of Gothic Bodies: The Politics of Pain in Romantic Fiction (1994), Reflecting Narcissus: A Queer Aesthetic (2000), and numerous articles on the gothic, queer sexuality, children, and dance. He has co-edited Curiouser: On the Queerness of Children (2004), and is the current managing editor of Horror Studies. He divides his time between two book-length projects: “Only the Dead Can Dance: Choreographies of Mortality,” which considers the continuing presence of the danse macabre in dance practice from the nineteenth century to AIDS; and “The Counterfeit Child,” which theorizes the ubiquitous figure of the fraudulent, replacement, or alien child in the contemporary gothic.
