Juan Orrantia is a Colombian photographer born in Bogota, Colombia, now working and living in South Africa. His work explores the ambivalence and ambiguity inherent in the photographic medium as a means to engage the possibilities of remaking memory, history, and biography. He has been awarded a Smithsonian Artist Fellowship-National Museum of African Art and the Tierney Fellowship in Photography. He has exhibited at the Lisbon Photobook Fair, Encontros da Imagem, Rencontres de Bamako, New York Photo Festival, Le Cube (Paris), and Bonani Africa Festival of Photography, among others. www.juanorrantia.com.
Ethiraj Gabriel Dattatreyan is an anthropologist based in London. He has been developing a body of filmic, photographic, and written work that explores the ways in which Somali, Nigerian, and Cameroonian students, entrepreneurs, and refugees living in Delhi and Pune imagine and experience “India” and “Africa.” He is also completing a monograph that focuses on hip-hop practitioners in Delhi and how they invoke American Blackness in their digital renderings of self to create social and economic possibilities in the city they call home.
