rebecca v. roeder is an associate professor of linguistics in the Department of English at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her research examines language variation and change in North American varieties of English, focusing on the interface between phonetics and phonology in processes of cross-generational change. Her recent and ongoing scholarship investigates systemic vowel shifts within and across urban areas in the English of Canada and the southeastern United States. Email: rroeder@uncc.edu.
